Helping increase student achievment

PBIS is a proactive systemic approach for creating and sustaining safe and effective school-wide learning environments for ALL students and staff.

PBIS is the application of evidence-based strategies and practices to assist school to increase academic performance, increase safety, decrease problem behavior, and establish positive school cultures for improved student learning.

PBIS is a team-led initiative process where schools design, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of systems – school-wide, non-classroom settings, classrooms, and individual students.  Federal educational requirements contained in the NCLB Act and IDEA (2004) are embedded within the PBIS process.

PBIS serves as a companion initiative to the Oregon state school improvement initiatives of: The Oregon Data Project or Data Driven Decision Making and Data Teams, and Response to Intervention (RtI), in assisting schools achieve district and state educational goals.

The NWRESD provides leadership, professional development, resources and continuing support to successfully implement and build capacity to sustain PBIS throughout the NWESD region.

The NWRESD School Improvement Department provides the following PBIS training and technical support to regional district and schools:

  • School readiness assistance to adopt and implement PBIS
  • Establishment and training of District PBIS Leadership Teams
  • Initial PBIS Team Training (school-based)
  • Developing District and School Team coaching capacity through training (on-going) and mentoring
  • On-going PBIS Team Staff Development – providing for sustainability
  • Initial School-Wide Information System (SWIS data system) training for schools
  • Assessment tools and protocols to monitor progress and refine systems work
